Also known as Ondamass treatment

Acoustic wave or "Shockwave" therapy is a relatively new application for the medical, aesthetic and beauty markets .It is used for the successful treatment of

  • cellulite,
  • Skin tightening,
  • improvement of blood and lymph circulation,
  • treatment of weak connective tissue
  • collagen production.

How does Acoustic wave therapy work?

A wave of acoustic energy is transferred to the skin via a hand piece. The shockwaves are high pressure amplitudes of oscillating energy. The sheer force of the this oscillating wave of energy breaks down connective fibrous walls which are what trap fat and toxins under the skin and are seen as lumps and bumps. Once the connective fibers have been destroyed fat and toxins are released. The Acoustic wave of energy causes

  • Accelerated lymphatic flow
  • Enhanced metabolic activity
  • Increased blood circulation

The results of the shattering effect of the connective tissues and the increased activity above stimulates the breakdown of fat as well as stimulates the production of fresh, thick bands of collagen. This fresh collagen not only gives the skin a smoother appearance but also makes the skin stronger by strengthening the dermis and the epidermis.

Acoustic wave therapy can be used on numerous areas of the body such as

  • Buttocks
  • Legs including thighs and calves
  • Abdomen
  • Arms

Why does it work better in woman than men?

Women as a generally rule have more fat cells than men as they serve as an energy reserve for women during pregnancy. As well as this women have hormonal fluctuation that increases the buildup of fat rather than the use of fat (lipogenesis and lipometabolism). This increase in fat cells also results in an increase in tissue pressure causing a diminished microcirculation and again decreasing lipolysis of fat. This causes the fat cells to become further enlarged and a viscous circle is started.

The procedure is non-invasive with results seen as early as 2 weeks post treatment.
